Hello me dears,

How are you all? Keeping well I trust? All ready to enjoy the summer of 2026 or did the UK mini heatwave over the last bank holiday finish you off as far as summer is concerned?

My goodness it was hot!

And now here we are in June when it’s officially summer, meteorological summer, astronomical starts on June 21st, and, the temperatures have dropped. Actually it is much more comfortable now, especially when you wear a fur coat like I do. Plus we should get some rain this week, much needed rain.

We need rain to make the grass grow and we need the grass to grow to get a decent hay harvest. Last year’s was dreadful with some local farmers 70% down on yields resulting in a hay shortage and a massive hike in prices.

Would you believe Madeline, Pippin and I are now on French cuisine? Our forage merchant has had to import from France. I have to say the hay is very tasty but the price is very ouchy.

The above photograph was taken during my birthday celebrations. That’s right it was my birthday on 28th May and a very nice birthday it was indeed.

Made extra special by the wonderful birthday greetings from friends and the fact that we were let on to fresh grass. Perfick!
